About - John Rocheleau’s Bio and Resume
John Rocheleau, founder of ProTech HVAC, LLC, has many accomplishments in the industry as a whole. He began his career in HVAC at New Hampshire Vocational Technical College - presently, New Hampshire Community Technical College (in Manchester, NH) - in 1979.
From 1980 to 1985, John serviced oil burners for 2 multi-generational family-owned fuel companies, whose origins began with selling coal in the 1930s. With the advent of oil burners in the 1940s, these companies installed the earliest technology such as, Timken Rotary, Winkler Low Pressure, General Electric Down-Fired, and Kalamazoo Conversion, oil burners - all of which were on their way out of production and use when John first worked for Tenney Fuels, and Ferns Energy Centers. Nevertheless, John’s apprenticeship involved servicing the earliest technological designs, as well as the 2 most common contemporary (American) burners, Beckett and Carlin.
Until 1988, when John decided to enroll in the Business Management program at New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI), in Concord, he worked for 2 more companies - an air conditioning and refrigeration service company, and a plumbing contractor, gaining invaluable experience in those areas.
While at NHTI, John worked part time under the company name, Best Heating Corp., and became a full-time contracting & service company when he received his degree. For the next eight years John designed, serviced, and installed a broad spectrum of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems for residential and commercial applications.
In 1996, John took a leap of faith with tool and component design ideas for the trade, and embarked on a 2-year invention development odyssey that culminated in over 50 designs, and 2 license agreements with a prominent manufacturer in the HVAC industry - Taco, Inc. .
In 1998 and 1999, 2 license agreements were signed with Taco, and soon thereafter, royalty checks were arriving in John’s mailbox. This modicum of success allowed John to return to NHTI to study drafting, both manual and with AutoCad, facilitating further design abilities.
In 2002, John moved from Concord to the Seacoast, and accepted a “Sales/Estimating” position with Dowling Corp., an HVAC/R contracting and service company of 30 years. For the first time in the company’s history, layoffs in the winter were avoided due to John’s ability to design and sell heating systems. Despite John’s sales ability, he realized that he could be more profitable in self-employment, and left Dowling to form Protech HVAC, LLC.
One of the first jobs Protech HVAC landed was a $300,000 climate control project in the $12,000,000 home (in North Hampton, NH) of the developer of the cable modem. For the next year and a half John installed 4 hydro-air systems, a dehumidification system in the indoor pool and spa room, a commercial kitchen exhaust and make-up air system, numerous ductless split air conditioning systems, and numerous boilers and fuel tanks. The buzzword was “museum quality”, which John actualized through his work. Despite the comprehensive depth and scope of systems design and complexity, John had only 1 callback: a 1″ PVC pipe fitting leaked, and was replaced.
Other clients of Protech include, a property management company, an historic building preservation society, numerous restaurants and super markets, residential and commercial customers, and law firms and plaintiffs with legal issues involving HVAC.
Presently, as an expert witness and consultant, John is involved with 2 Superior Court cases, and is a consultant to independent inventors. He is also writing a book on his experiences as an independent inventor chasing the entrepreneurial dream.
